Featured Article: Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

People always say, “Take Time to Smell The Roses”. It’s a common cliche, but what does it really mean? If it means that life goes by so fast, in an instant when you put it into perspective, that you need to slow down and think about what is really important in your life, then it has some real meaning. As, President Obama asked the world so eloquently last Sunday night in the Newtown High School auditorium, “Why are we here?” Yes, why are we here? Well, first of all, according to Nostradamus and The Mayans, we may not be here tomorrow. But, if we still are, you can read more about why we are here and what we need to do to stay here for as long as we can on this website that is here simply to stimulate your mind and make you think. There won’t be any political agenda, and there won’t be any hard line opinions. Our purpose is simply to get you to ask the most basic questions and try to explain the answers in a humorous way. In other words, to get you to THINK ABOUT IT!

A long, long time ago, this beautiful place we call Earth was created. Somewhere down the line life started to form in many ways. It started real small and then got much, much bigger. First we had just cells of life, then plants, and animals, and then dinosaurs, and eventually a thing known as Man. Many believe this planet of ours, and all that comes with it, was created by some great being. Some God they believe in who took six days to do his/her work and then took Sunday off to watch Football. Others believe in the theory of Evolution. Whatever you believe though, there is no denying that it hasn’t taken very long in the realm of time to create quite a mess. So, who’s to blame? Well, frankly everyone. All of us. But, what does placing blame on all of us or any of us really get us? It gets many people angry. And, when people get angry they release their anger in many ways, shapes, and forms. Others find compassion even in their darkest hour and hope that their compassion can bring others to find more compassion to the point where it becomes viral and just maybe because of it, the world will become a better place. Perhaps these people took time out in their lives to Smell the Roses. How else can you explain people who have just lost their most valuable asset; their precious little child who is not only a part of them, but sometimes their whole reason for being, due to some insanely horrific crime, yet still try to make sense of it and show compassion for those who took their loved one?  How else can you explain that? THINK ABOUT IT!

If we all took time out from our crazy, busy lives to stop and Smell The Roses each day, we’d probably find out some things about ourselves that we really didn’t know, and we’d probably end up showing more compassion for those who live around us, and with us, in this place we call home. Does it really pay to yell at a neighbor over a little dog that is barking when you need some sleep, or even worse to inflict harm on that person and that tiny little animal? Does it really pay to stop your car on the road and pull out a tire iron to threaten someone who cut you off on the road? Does it really pay to punch someone blindly in the back of the head and put them into a coma and inflict permanent brain damage simply because you didn’t like the Baseball Jersey he was wearing? Does it really pay to have a shitload of automatic weapons in your expensive and beautiful suburban home because you like to go to the shooting range or you really believe you need those weapons for protection? Does anything of this nature really pay? THINK ABOUT IT!

While you’re thinking about it, let’s hope the world doesn’t end today. If it does, it was nice knowing you for the time we got to spend together. If it doesn’t end today, let’s think about it some more tomorrow and smell some fresh roses.

StatisTRIX 0000 ND

The N.Y. Giants scored 52 points two weeks ago, and zero points this past Sunday. StatisTRIX shows that they averaged 26 points per game in their last two games. Not bad at all!!!

“Statistics always remind me of the fellow who drowned in a river whose average depth was only three feet” Woody Hayes, Ohio State Football Coach

“Say you were standing with one foot in the oven and one foot in an ice bucket. According to the percentage people, you should be about perfectly comfortable.”  Bobby Bragan, Milwaukee Braves manager

The unemployment rate is down to 7.7%, they say. Go into any inner city and tell that to all the people standing on the corner.

In 2011, Tim Tebow made his first start for the lousy Denver Broncos on October 23rd. He proceeded to lead his team to victory in 7 of the next 8 games. While losing the next 3, the Broncos still made the playoffs because of him, and beat the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs on an 80 yard pass from Timmy himself on the first play in overtime. His completion percentage in 2011 was a dismal 46.5%. His Quarterback Rating (perhaps the dumbest StatisTRIX in sports) was 72.9. He was traded to the Jets. He has been destroyed by the media and all those that REALLY know Football. He hasn’t even played because everyone knows he cannot throw the Football accurately. But, he does win! Unfortunately, Wins don’t seem to matter when it comes to StatisTRIX. They aren’t even calculated in the Quarterback Rating. Neither is 4th Quarter comebacks, or completions under pressure. In fact, Johnny Unitas is approximately 175th all time in Quarterback Rating, but, considered by many to be the greatest Quarterback ever. Why? Because he was a winner! In the words of Herm Edwards, “You play to win the game”! As for Timmy? Good God!

Spin 0000 – ESPnd Sports

ESPnd is ND’s local sports channel. THE ESP has nothing to do with that other network you all know and love to hate. No, it’s rather about ND’s powers. His powers of ESP. You see, ND is not like Nostradamus. He’s not in the business of predictions or sports predictions. He’ll leave that up to the millions of EXPERTS that do that now and have been doing it since Jimmy The Greek. So, don’t be asking ND to pick you a horse, tell you who’s gonna win the game, or even what stock to buy. If ND knew that, he wouldn’t be doing this!!!! But, if you ever are at a game with ND himself, or even watching one with him, you may be shocked when he tells you exactly what is going to happen on the very next play. That is ESPnd in action!

Now For Today’s ESPnd Blog:
Is modern sports all that different from Ancient Rome? Not really. In Ancient Rome they had Chariot Races. Today we have NASCAR. In Ancient Rome they had Gladiators at the Colosseum. Today we have Football in the Superdome. THINK ABOUT IT!

Last weekend Football was played all around the nation. A moment of silence was held for the victims and their families. Players wore S.H.E.S on their helmets and shoes showing support for Newtown, CT and Sandy Hook Elementary School.  One victim, a sweet little six year old boy named Jack Pinto, was a N.Y. Giants fan. Victor Cruz, the wide receiver from the Giants who is famous for his Salsa Dance after he scores a touchdown, was Jack Pinto’s hero. Jack was buried in a replica Victor Cruz number 80 Jersey. Cruz wore Jack Pinto’s name on his shoes last Sunday. Then he drove to Newtown, CT this past week to visit with the Pinto family. The Giants lost 34-0. Some things are far more important than a football game or whether or not the Giants will make the playoffs. THINK ABOUT IT!

Less than three weeks ago, Bob Costas got reamed by the public during halftime of the nationally televised Sunday Night Football game after he dared to mention that it may be time to have a serious discussion about “Gun Control” and referred to Jason Whitlock’s article about it after a Kansas City Chief’s player shot and killed his girlfriend,  Kasandra Perkins, the mother of his infant daughter Zoey, the previous day, and then shot and killed himself right in front of his coaches. How does Bob Costas look now? NostraCostas? Costas Nostra? THINK ABOUT IT!

Rodney Dangerfield famously said when discussing mass murderers that people always want to know what kind of a guy he was. “What kind of guy was he?” He was “A Quiet Guy”, said Rodney. Everyone laughed, but he was right.  Watch out for the “Quiet Guys”!!!  Make friends with the “Noisy Loud Guys”!!!  You’ll never see them in the Mass Murderers Sports Hall of Fame!
